This is brilliant! The whole iron with nails it in of Cadeau Audace reconceived with superb irony - crucifixion nails, curtain of sanctum ripped as iron would rip fabric... This has the lot.

Thanks! Domestic Imagery and religious iconography seem a happy marriage and wait till you see what I've done with the toaster.

PS Its a little bit more complex than the Man Ray Cadaeu, because.... well, the iron belonged to R.B. Kitaj and he left it to me when he returned to the states, with the toaster and some other domestix. Being Jewish, fiercely so, this piece would have resonated in different ways with him. In the end I thought I can only use what I know about and what is within my remit, and pressed (hoho) on. The present becomes daring...

Kitaj's iron! And so it was a true cadeau... You're right, it just gets better.
Looking at it now, I notice that there are twelve nozzles on it - like there were twelve apostles (jets of steam instead of tongues of fire) but also the twelve divisions of a sun wheel... The toaster (brave and little, I trust) should be a sight to see.
In the end I thought I can only use what I know about and what is within my remit...
You are truly the domestic goddess ;)

Rather sinisterly there are thirteen holes - one at the top where the foot nail goes. Perhaps the fact that it is filled by said nail means it isn't a hole and doesn't enter the equation.
Hic-up technically here in that my machine and access to photies has gone to Marcus for mending - it got caught in a start-up loop - and since Im off to blighty on Thursday the toaster will have to stay under wraps till Mid May. See you soon!

Domestic Incident 1 is now in the collection of Gallery 291 in a vitrine with an original Man Ray Cadeau Audace - naturally thrilled to be in such august company -
